The Warhammer 40,000: Assault on Black Reach boxed game contains a 112-page Rulebook, a 33-page Getting Started booklet, Dice, Templates, Range Rulers and almost 50 Citadel miniatures, including: a Space Marine Captain, 10 Tactical Space Marines, Five Space Marine Terminators, a Space Marine Dreadnought, an Ork Warboss, 20 Ork Boyz, five Ork Nobz and three Ork Deffkoptas.

The Assault on Black reach boxed game is an ideal first purchase for anyone new to playing Warhammer 40,000 or a great way to expand your existing Space Marine or Ork army.

The Assault on Black Reach is a great way to get started with Warhammer 40,000. I bought this set with a mate, that's £20 each, for an army for each of us and all the rules needed to play the game. Bargain!!!

I bought this set because I was getting into warhammer 40k and because I needed more units for my Space marine army. I was worried that the construction would be sub-par but that wasnt the case. While you cant pose them in the variety of positions as the more expensive sets they are already posed in a variety of standard positions and the detail of the models are preserved. As summarized in the title this is a steal at the price because an equivalent army would cost an upwards of 50 pounds retail. If your considering this for a child I would recommend it for someone over the age of 10 because of the skill required to assemble the pieces properly (clippers, pocket knife or exacto-knife, and sand paper, and paint, recommended though not required) and learn the rules of the game which are still complex for a 20 year old such as I. If you do get this set for your child make sure he has someone to play with or have time yourself to invest in learning the game and perhaps help make and paint the models. So for veterans of the game looking for more models to add to their army or beginners looking to enjoy a new game this set satisfies all.

WOW, What is there not to like about the AoBR, The models are fantastic, great for starters especially with those who are new to painting, the orks are fantastic as they allow you to learn how to highlight easily due to the high raises of the skin, the space marines are not so easy to learn these skills on but both the armies are well in keeping with the current lines. The starter rules themselves are also easy to understand although they can be a little bit difficult to read due to wording. When split between two friends this kit is fantastic at only £20 each. The only let down for the kit is that unlike the battle for macragge kit this kit does not include any scenery, which would be nice possibly even worth an extra £10 as it gives you something to fight over. Or a deal that included one of the city of death terrain pieces

This box set is really worth the money, me and my younger step brother recently were looking into buying some Warhammer and the guys at the Warhammer shop in Darlington were i live introduced us to the box and we refused, not knowing much about the game we didn't want to rush into things but then when looking online i found this website.
After reading the description i decided to buy it for two major points.
A. This website is awesome and its a lot cheaper then everywhere else for gaming supplies
B. We were given extra discount due to the box being a starter set, which i personally think is a really nice thing to do considering it helps people get into the games for a cheaper price and ease's us in more.

Definitely a great way to learn the basic's and start with an average sized army.

The main thing about the Assault on Black reach Warhammer 40,000 starter set is that it represents great value for money.

In the box you get a pocket sized edition of the Warhammer 40,000 rule book along with 46 models, including 1 Space Marine Dreadnought and 3 Ork Deffkoptas.

If you are just starting out with Warhammer 40,000 and you are thinking of collecting a Space Marine or Ork army then purchasing the Assault on Black Reach boxed set is a no-brainer.

Overall, the bast way to get started with Warhammer 40,000.

Well, I must say that this is a much better starter pack then the old Battle For MacCragge. Miniature wise it is a much better value, almost five hundred points of both Orks and Space Marines. The models themselves are of a higher standard then the older static models. Also there are more then just a single troop choice for each. The ork deffkoptas and space marine dreadnought are definitely nice additions to either army. The only part that it falls short is the starter rules are rather phoned in, reviewing the whole process rather then teaching how each model is used and the specific types of rules for that type of model in an individual scenario. While the pocket sized rule book remedies this, it is intimidating for a neophyte, and more basic instructions would be useful for them.
