Not to be outdone, having pitted their individual warrior prowess against their foes and been found wanting these dead and wounded Celts are will make a great addition to the bases of your Celt army. Of course, they’ll also do very nicely on the bases of Roman armies too!

Warlord Games have produced a set of what may better be called Barbarian archers as we think that these lads would look great in a Dacian army, a German horde as well as most Celtic tribes.

Use of the bow in Britain seemed to have been only for hunting, the slingshot the favoured missile weapon, but on the continent the bow seems to have been used in war, certainly at Gergovia as Caeser noted.

The four different Celtic archer models can represent either skilled huntsmen used to stalking their prey or the younger or older warriors not considered suitable for the clash of steel, but eager to add to the action from afar.

The Celtic Cavalry Regiment offer combines the multi-pose flexibility of Warlord Games superb plastic Celtic Warriors with finely detailed metal and resin components.

The ponies come with the riders' legs attached - all you need to do is choose which upper torso and shield you want to add from the plastic sprue and due to the bowl-joint at the waist you're ready to swivel, tilt and otherwise position your model to your own taste! There are few more iconic images of the Celt army than squadrons of chariots hurtling across the battlefield harrying the enemy flanks or providing shock tactics to test the mettle of the enemy battleline.

The Celts used large amounts of slingers in battle, to support their spearmen and to weaken the enemy before a close-quarters encounter. Often made up from those Celts too young or too old to join their tribesfolk in the heart of the battle they provided a withering hail of stones into the enemy lines as well as acting as a skirmish screen.

Celts not only used Woldhounds for hunting deer but they also played an important role on the battlefield. Packs of hounds would be unleashed to unsettle the enemy and also to knock horsemen from their saddles so celtic warriors could despatch them more easily!
